Climate

Madeira has a sub-tropical climate with mild temperatures all year round. The Passat wind gives the island a distinctive microclimate.

The mountain range in the centre of the island has the effect of a meteorological divide and separates the island into a frequently overcast northern side with high precipitation and a drier and sunnier south side.

The temperatures between summer and winter vary only by a few degrees. Funchal and the south coast in particular have a favourable climate. The weather on high ground in winter can be changeable and cool.
